In detail
Every streaming service compresses video differently, but the biggest factor in data usage is always the picture quality you stream in. The table above shows the highest quality each service offers and the data a stream uses at that level, based on our typical bitrates.
Most video services adapt quality in real time to your connection and screen. That means a phone on mobile data often streams far below the maximum, while a 4K TV on a fast home connection uses the full rate. Services capped at Full HD, such as Twitch, Crunchyroll and DAZN, can never reach 4K data rates.
Music services use very little data in standard quality — usually around 0.1–0.15 GB per hour. Lossless and hi-res modes on Apple Music, Amazon Music, TIDAL and Deezer use several times more, so check your settings if you listen on mobile data.
Each card lists the setting that saves the most data in that service's app. Links go to the official websites; StreamingCalcu is independent and not affiliated with any of these services.
